Wern Watkin Bunkhouse

Crickhowell the jewel in the Brecon Beacons

Wern Watkin is located in the Brecon Beacons National Park. It is high up on Mynnedd Llangattock near the escarpment and offers direct walking access to the mountainside, ancient woodland, caves, cliffs and industrial heritage. Our guests include families, scouts, ramblers, canoeists, cyclists, cavers, training groups, educational groups, families, and social groups.

Excellent Accommodation
The Bunkhouse is a converted stone built barn for 30 people. It also operates as YHA Llangattock Mountain. We are a Visit Wales 5 star graded bunkhouse and also accredited as walker and cyclist friendly. Our links with YHA scheme gives you assurance of the standards that we offer. The bunkhouse sleeps up to thirty people in seven fully en-suite bedrooms. There is a massive dining room/seating area and a wonderful outdoor space opening out onto ancient woodlands. There is under-floor heating throughout, excellent drying facilities and ample hot water.

Activities
Our location is simply wonderful for an enormous range of activities. We can arrange a wide range of outdoor pursuits using local experienced and qualified instructors. See our activity page for more details.

The Environment
We are small holding run in on environmental lines to improve the diversity of the wildlife. We are also Green Dragon Accredited to show our Environmental Credentials. Habitats at your door include ancient woodland, unusual wildflower meadows, rare marshland and a wildlife pond. We have a massive and thrilling colony of house martins swirling around the site and this is replaced at night be a major colony of bats which have their own floor in the bunkhouse. Bird lovers can see over 65species seen in the last three years and botanists will be delighted in the unusual flora.

Accommodation
The bunkhouse has seven fully en-suite bedrooms. There are two leader rooms (each which could take up to two people), and the other beds split into five other bedrooms.

We can provide accommodation and catering for social parties, field study groups, training groups, students, families and groups using the outdoors.

We aim to be as flexible as possible to accommodate the needs of our guests. So if you have some special needs do ask!

The ground floor and immediate surroundings on the building are wheel chair accessible. Please ask for our access statement, if you would like further information on the suitability for disabled guests.

Catering
The bunkhouse is set up for self-catering with a well equipped kitchen designed for cooking for large numbers.

However if you feel you want to do other things with your time, then Prickly Pear Catering are able to provide some/all of your meals. Please contact us with your requirements, or if you would like sample menus.
