The Angel Hotel

The Angel Hotel - the major hotel of Abergavenny right in the centre

The Angel Hotel was a great coaching inn on the London to Fishguard road; privately run now since 2002. Sitting at Abergavenny's centre, it combines friendly and attentive service with an elegant décor. Fully non-smoking.

AA three stars awarded to the hotel, and the award-winning cuisine has an AA rosette. Plus the wine list has a 2007 and 2008 ‘Wine Spectator’ Award of Excellence. Just 25 UK winners - only one in Wales.

THE LODGE

We have a useful addition to our accommodation portfolio - The Lodge. Abergavenny Castle is only a few hundred yards from the rear of the hotel. At the Castle entrance gate is The Lodge which now forms part of the hotel. There is a delightful sitting room, bathroom (with shower), and small kitchen on the ground floor; and upstairs, two double rooms. Plus outside there is a small private courtyard, with views to the Blorenge mountain. It is available as a single booking for up to four guests, at £240 per night - including breakfast.
(Three guests: £185; two: £150; one: £100).
The Lodge is non-smoking.

There is full chambermaid service, but otherwise it is a separate unit. This does mean a three-minute walk over to the hotel for breakfast and other meals. As the Lodge is physically apart from the hotel, there is minimal room service available (and shoe-shine!). But there is a small kitchen where you can prepare drinks. Note too, there is no direct hotel telephone.

For those who fancy something a little different, and more independent, it's perfect. See more pictures by clicking our website link

DINING AT THE ANGEL HOTEL

The Restaurant has crisp white cloths and sparkling glass, to set off our award-winning cuisine. Breakfast (included in the room price) is served 7.00 - 10.00am. (8.00 - 10.00am. at weekends). Lunch is from Noon - 2.30pm. Choose from the current lunch menu, which ranges from interesting sandwiches to full meals.

In the evening we serve our dinner menu (similar to lunch, but does not offer sandwiches) from 7.00pm. Last orders are at 10.00pm. There is evening pianist entertainment, Friday and Saturday. And we have a popular traditional Sunday lunch. The menus of our Chef-Director, Mark Turton, follow the seasons, and are well-received critically.

During the Summer months our sheltered courtyard offers comfortable, open-air relaxation. The restaurant menus and afternoon tea are served here.

THE FOXHUNTER BAR

The Foxhunter Bar is open for drinks, 10.00am. until 2.30pm., and 6.00pm. to 11.00pm. There’s an open fire, original wood panelling from the early 1900’s, and interesting old paintings of Abergavenny. Behind the bar, we now have custom-built, stainless-steel fittings. We have a good range of beers like The Reverend James and London Pride, plus guest beers, kept in fine condition in state-of-the-art cellars, with interesting guest beers, and a half-dozen wines by the glass.

We serve some enticing dishes, as a less formal option to the restaurant, from 12.00 noon to 2.30pm. and 6.30 - 10.00pm.

In the evenings, the Foxhunter is the domain of Laurent, our skilled Head Barman, and Food & Beverage Manager, Mehmet. They takes pleasure in mixing cocktails, your favourites, or one of their delicious suggestions. See the bar by clicking this website link
