The day will consist of workshops in which technique will be taught, including use of veils and stick technique. We will also learn a choreography. There will also be a short performance from the tutor. Wear comfortable clothes - loose full skirt or baggy trousers and a scarf to tie around the hips. Bring a sarong or a 1.5m length of material to be a veil. Please also bring a stick if you have one (approx 1" diameter thin walking stick size). We usually dance barefoot or in flat shoes. The course is suitable for beginners and more experienced students who wish to develop their techniques and work with props.

BABY MASSAGE
Tutor: Emma Bevan
Did you know that babies who receive regular massage fall asleep faster and remain more alert when awake? Touch is a baby’s most developed sense and is a wonderful way to express your affection. Most parents instinctively stroke their newborns, to welcome and soothe them – baby massage is a natural progression of this first contact, and research indicates that it is beneficial to health and development, both emotional and physical. Baby massage can evolve from first cuddles and is a real treat for parents and baby, allowing quality time together. It can be particularly beneficial to mothers with post-natal depression or fathers feeling ‘helpless’ or left out; baby massage is a positive way to bond with their babies.Massage calms both parent and baby and nurtures confidence, which helps cope with the stresses of parenthood – it also improves parents’ communication with their baby. Baby massage can help with many minor ailments, including soothing colic; relaxing and encouraging sleep; and assisting the treatment of skin conditions. Regular massage will help you learn your baby’s likes and dislikes through body language, and enable your baby to become more supple, calmer, more responsive and sociable. The benefits are for both baby, parents and grandparents, so join now and learn an ancient and successful technique!

YOGA & YOUR BACK
Tutor: Ruth Morris
More than 80% of the population will suffer from back pain at sometime in their life. Yoga is not a cure but a useful tool to help us deal with back problems. Specific postures, breathing and meditation will help ease pain and keep blood and oxygen flowing to the muscles. Ruth Morris is a local teacher and came to yoga with a chronic back condition, having been in a spinal support for some years. With a back problem you feel you are moving with the brakes on, yoga will help to take the brakes off.
