Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of HSBC Brecon Jazz with a wide-ranging exhibition and retrospective. The exhibition will include a display of the original artwork for the distinctive jazz festival posters which the Museum holds in its collection as well as a retrospective of artwork from the past 25 years. There will also be images of the jazz legends who have appeared at Brecon, a full collection of souvenir brochures and a range of associated memorabilia. The exhibition will open to the public on 19th of July and will run until 7th September.
Come along to the Museum on Friday 8 August and join Tim Rossiter, the artist who created the striking 25th anniversary image, for a free Gothic Blues Art Workshop. Taking as his inspiration three great Bluesmen Robert Johnson, Bukka White and Muddy Waters participants will be sampling great tracks from the past on vinyl and creating a dramatic black and white community collage using ink, wax resist, scraper board and cut out. Anyone wishing to participate in the workshop is welcome to come along to the Museum any time between 10am and 4pm.
Brecon Jazz mixes some of the worlds finest jazz music with a stunning location in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Since its launch in 1984 the Festival has earned an international reputation for the unique atmosphere it creates both for its audience and the galaxy of international artists who perform there each year on the second weekend in August. The programme for 2008 includes: Jools Holland, Cerys Matthews, Joan Armatrading, Louis Hayes, Courtney Pine, Maceo Parker and a childrens concert and workshop given by Jason Rebello and friends. The HSBC Schools Outreach Programme has been run by Eddie Parker
