Christ College, Brecon
Christ College is one of the oldest and most successful schools in Wales. Founded in 1541 by Henry VIII, it occupies an enviable site on the outskirts of Brecon, in the Brecon Beacons National Park.
There are over 315 pupils at Christ College Brecon, a size which enables it to offer a wide range of academic and extra-curricular activities, whilst giving everyone the chance to form close friendships and to develop a real sense of belonging.
Parents and guardians value the unique care and concern that pupils receive at Christ College – support from highly qualified and experienced staff which extends beyond the classroom to every aspect of daily life and leads to a high level of achievement in both academic and non-academic areas.
Following an increase in demand for places, Christ College now runs its own daily bus service to destinations in and around South Wales and Herefordshire.
The 2007/8 Academic Year concluded with the best ever grades at A level results. Nearly a third of pupils who sat A levels exams achieved three or more A grades whilst an impressive 73% of all grades were A or B. Pride of place once again went to the Maths and Science Departments where 74% of the grades were A or B grades. There were also excellent GCSE results where over 89% of grades were C or better, and 95% of pupils achieved five or more GCSE passes. Over 80% of pupils achieved five or more GCSE passes including Maths, English and Science which is over twice the national average.
Open mornings for all age groups are held every term and on Friday 28th November 2008 there is a Sixth Form Open Evening commencing at 6.30pm. This is designed for pupils taking GCSEs in 2009 and will offer an insight into Sixth Form life at the school.
These events are an opportunity for prospective pupils and their parents to meet the Head, Director of Studies and Heads of Department to discuss academic options, hear about the wealth of extra-curricular options available to them and see many of the outstanding facilities around the campus.
