Sunday opening in Brecon
From Easter not only will visitors be able to stock up on their outdoor gear from Cotswold Outdoor and Millets but they will be able to browse the broad range of original art and prints of Ardent gallery and the second hand books at Mortons. Gifts and cards of every sort will be on sale at Sirius, as well as at Birthday & Balloons.
The Heritage Centre at the cathedral also has a well-stocked gift shop (open from 12-4pm) and with Pilgrims Tearooms also open in the Close, the cathedral and grounds are a wonderful place to discover on a peaceful Sunday. Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery is open from 12-5pm and in August this will be complimented by The Regimental Museum also opening its doors on a Sunday 10am-4pm.
People arriving in the town can explore the canal with a beautiful walk to Brynich lock along the towpath or take the footpath along the River Usk to the Promenade where refreshments are available and pedalos and rowing boats can be hired. In July and August the mid day canal trip fits perfectly with the bus times but of course those not constrained by a bus timetable can enjoy this outing at different times every Sunday throughout the Summer.
A number of tearooms are open in the centre of the town as is The George Hotel who offer teas and coffees all day as well as lunches from 12-2.30pm. The highlight of any trip to Brecon has to be sampling the local ice-cream made by Llanfaes Dairy, available in a variety of cones allowing you to be as greedy as you want to be!!
